I’ve talked a lot on this blog about how yoga and meditation have helped me on the road to recovery. I’ve also mentioned that I made some pretty big diet changes that helped me recover, but haven’t gone into detail on that topic yet! I recently got the opportunity to represent Your Superfoods as a brand ambassador! I’m really excited about this because not only is Your Superfoods on a mission to make eating healthier tasty and easy, they are committed to ending malnutrition in the world.
When I was younger, neither myself nor my family knew much about healthy eating. We had a giant snack cupboard (much to the delight and jealousy of my best friend) and didn’t think much about what we were putting into our bodies. When I started my recovery journey, one of the first things I did was learn about nutrition. I started eating whole grains and lean proteins and lots of fruit and vegetables. I felt better, but it wasn’t until I did an elimination diet with a nutritionist and cut out gluten and dairy that I really started to recognize the effects of good nutrition.
I don’t usually use supplements, I don’t have any deficiencies so I try to just eat a balanced diet. But I’m a big fan of incorporating superfoods into my meals. When I got the opportunity to be a brand ambassador for Your Superfoods I was very excited for the extra help in adding nutrients to my diet! Your Superfoods came into my life at the right time, when I was struggling with keeping on track with healthy eating. Life in London was getting the better of me, I was tired from busy days in the city, and I visited the fish n chip shop more times than I’d like to admit. Also, buying fresh and organic fruit in Veg in the city quickly adds on to the budget.
All of the mixes I got to try were excellent! It was very exciting to get a package in the mail with my goodies:
My first reaction was to try the chocolate lovers mix immediately. So I made myself a snack with strawberry yogurt and the chocolate lovers:
It tasted great, just the right amount of chocolate, and the best part was that I didn’t get a sugar crash from adding a heaping spoonful into my yogurt.
I continued to experiment with the superfoods in my breakfast foods: adding the Green Energy mix to Greek yogurt and fruit, making a tasty smoothy with Forever Beautiful and Green Protein, and even adding Chocolate Lovers and cinnamon to my oatmeal in the morning. It didn’t look too appealing but tasted great!
Overall, Your Superfoods is a great addition to my wellness toolkit. Along with yoga, meditation, self-care rituals, and eating lots of fresh fruit and vegetables. When you’re ill with a chronic illness, you need to treat your body like an athlete in recovery! Resting, stretching, massaging, and eating well.
If you’re looking for a way to add more nutrients to your diet, I’d recommend giving Your Superfoods a try.
I’d love to know how you’ve adapted your diet to living with a chronic illness! Also, do you want to know more about my story with food? And what else I cook with the Your Superfood mixes as I try to reach their level of healthy foodporn?
