Yoga and Lyme Disease: An Interview with Erin Bidlake

"Mindfulness helps you go home to the present. And every time you go there and recognize a condition of happiness that you have, happiness comes." ~ Thich Nhat Hanh

Erin  is a fellow Canadian yogi who understands what it’s like to live with a chronic illness all too well. Before taking her first yoga class, Erin had spent 6 months in bed - barely able to move. Sound familiar, anyone? Erin began developing a regular yoga practice in 2000, and as we discuss in our interview, the first reason Erin kept doing yoga was that it didn’t make things worse. As she continued on her yogic journey, she found that yoga was helping her manage her pain in ways that doctors, who still hadn’t given her a diagnosis, could not.

Erin later found out that her pain and fatigue was caused by Lyme Disease, a chronic and disabling condition. But thanks in part to her yoga practice, Erin has been able to travel to 30 countries, get a PhD (holy cow!), and become a yoga teacher to share the practice that helped her so much.

In this interview, we talk about our own journeys with chronic illness and how yoga helped us on our way.

It was amazing getting to chat with Erin and learn about her journey with yoga and Lyme Disease!

Enjoy!
